Role of telemedicine platforms in the northern zone regional hospitals' healthcare services delivery: A case of northern zone regional hospitals

This study examines the role of telemedicine platforms in the Northern Zone regional hospitals' healthcare services delivery in Northern Zone regional hospitals in Tanzania. Guided by the Systems Theory, the study adopted a pragmatic research philosophy, employing a mixed research approach and a case study design covering Haydom Lutheran Hospital, Mawenzi Regional Referral Hospital, and Mount Meru Hospital. A total of 176 respondents were selected using purposive and stratified sampling techniques, and data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentary reviews. Quantitative data were analysed using IBM SPSS, with descriptive statistics and regression analysis, while qualitative data were analysed using content analysis. The study revealed that telemedicine platforms improve access to healthcare services, enhance service quality, and increase efficiency in service delivery. The study concluded that digital platforms play a vital role in enhancing healthcare delivery in Northern Zone hospitals. This study recommended that hospitals strengthen telemedicine, invest in training and infrastructure, and adopt supportive policies. Further studies should examine long-term impacts, barriers to adoption, and comparative analyses across regions to optimize digital healthcare services.
